Damian Callan

Damian Callan is a professional figurative painter and visual artist based in Edinburgh, specialising in drawing, portraiture, and expressive painting. He runs drawing and painting classes for adults and art classes for children from his studio at Silvan House, opposite Edinburgh Zoo.

In the spring and summer months, Damian leads landscape painting courses in and around Edinburgh, offering students the opportunity to develop their skills outdoors while exploring light, colour, and composition in real environments.

Damian is the author of two internationally recognised books, Paint Like Degas and Paint Like Renoir, and his work has been widely exhibited across the UK and internationally. His paintings are held in private collections around the world.

He has written for Artist & Illustrators Magazine and The Artist Magazine, and regularly delivers live drawing and painting demonstrations at public art events in Edinburgh.

Damian’s teaching combines classical techniques with contemporary practice, making his classes ideal for beginners through to advanced artists seeking professional guidance in a supportive studio environment.
