Sloth

Sloth is one in a series of four small paintings I did on the theme of states of being, the others are Coil, Toil and Rebirth.
Painted in gouache on paper, this one shows a tortoise shell with human arms folded in the fron suggesting a person is inside the protective shell hibernating, the folded arms representing inactivity and slothfulness.

The original was sold at The Marchmont Gallery, Edinburgh around 2006.  The owner, Jamie also framed the four original pieces.

I’m also in the progress of recreating the four paintings on canvas.
